About Ruitersrus
A little room
to slow down.
Mountains on the horizon. Horses in the paddock. Space to spend your days a little differently.

A sense of place
Country at heart.
Coast within reach.
Along the R328 between Mossel Bay and Oudtshoorn, Ruitersrus is a self-catering guest farm in Ruiterbos. It’s a place to settle in, spend time outside and enjoy the countryside at your own pace.
Take a day out towards the coast or over Robinson Pass to the Klein Karoo. Or keep the car parked and make a day of the farm: a walk, a swim and something on the braai as the afternoon draws to a close.

Life on the farm
Less on the agenda.
More in the day.
Morning coffee outside. A little time watching the horses. An afternoon beside the shared pool. There’s room here for the simple things that make a few days away feel like a proper break.
Gather at the communal lapa, cook on the braai or make an evening of the pizza oven. With space to walk and mountain views to take in, you can be as busy—or as unhurried—as you please.
A working farm
A place to relax.
A place with purpose.
Ruitersrus grew from a family’s wish to spend time together, make things by hand and care for the land they call home.
Our aim for the farm was to create a place where we could relax and spend time with our children while indulging our passions for making wine, beekeeping and producing our own food. We believe in living lightly on the land and in making the farm a place where care, curiosity and family life can grow together.
We are custodians of five Percheron horses adopted from the previous owners who used to manage the Heavy Draft Horse Foundation. These original heavy-draft horses are part of the character of Ruitersrus and an important part of our responsibility here.
